Re: [rosacea] Hello all

I have to agree with everyone. My little one has severe asthma and has unfortunately had to be on prednisone far too often. But with him there is LITERALLY NO CHOICE..........you don't breathe, you die. But every time he has had to be on it I am very concerned. It is not a good drug to mess with. And it sure does cause a red round face. They call it "moon face" and it is supposed to go away when the prednisone is stopped but to me he still has a very round face and he does get red. He hasn't had to go on the liquid kind in a few years and I am very thankful. But there is still an inhaled form in his asthma medicine (he takes Advair) that still concerns me. The doctors swear that it does not have the same affect of weight gain and the face puffiness, but we all know how that song goes, don't we? Anyway, again, when it involves breathing there really are no choices. I lean natural for remedies also, but even my son's homeopathic MD looke d me straight in the eyes
and said, "conventional route with this Elena. His is bad." So I knew he meant it because he ALWAYS goes homeopathic and natural before anything else. Anyway, that's my little addition to this conversation. But let me say that if low dose prednisone is indeed NEW and they find there is NO adverse effects like with standard dosages then I'm sure once we all got over our fear of it we'd want to give it a look. This damned rosacea is just such a monster to beat down.

Take care all,
Elena

Perry, Artist is correct on this. I would like to second that. Prednisone can cause thinning of the skin amoung many other side effects. You can simply google prednisone thin skin.....and you will come up with alot of information. Hope this helps you. I know its your choice, and we are here to help one another, but prednisone to me has serious concequences long term, and should not be taken lightly.I dont mean to scare you here, but I think you should listen to your doctor on this one. take care. tamara

Your comments concerning prednisone are interesting. I am not aware
(doesn't mean it doesn't exist) of anything in the literature linking
oral corticosteroid use to the thinning of facial skin. My
understanding is that phenomenon is thus far restricted to the use of
the topical coticosteroids, at least at present.
Prednisone (10 mg/day) is the ONLY therapy that has helped my rosacea
(incl. IPL/laser, Rx, OTC's, herbals, etc). It has many off-label
indications, incl. collagen stimulation (in addition to its well known
anti-inflammatory, allergic, and auto-immune activity).
I am definitely NOT disagreeing with your assessment of P use and a
possible rosacea link, however, and will let the group know if and when
my symptoms take a turn for the worse.
Thanks for the info.
