I believe all the "cyclines" are the same in regards to photosensitivity.
When I took the antibiotics, it was Doxycycline, and it also had that
problem.
Incidentally, depending on how long you'll be taking the meds (longer than
five weeks) I would suggest you add a probiotic to your daily diet, as these
high doses of meds will essentially kill all the good bacteria in your
stomach tract. This can result in a yeast overload, which is not fun. Also,
it harder to know you have a problem with yeast when you are a male.
So, if you begin to have a white coating on your tongue or anywhere else in
your mouth, see a doctor. Also jock itch may also provide a clue to yeast
overload.
I took antibiotics for ten weeks the summer before last, and I was seriously
screwed up for about 5-7 months afterwards. If I knew then what I know now
about rosacea, and ways to combat it, I would never have taken those anti's.
For me certain lifestyle changes have dramatically reduced the symptoms much
more so than the anti's or topicals.
Good luck, any questions jus give a holler, this is a pretty informed group
as a whole.

Subject: [rosacea] Tetracycline Dosage
Hi,
I was prescribed Tetracycline 3 weeks ago by my derm. I'm taking 500mg
twice per day, morning and night time.
The inflammation and papules has gone down but the redness increased
significantly. I know tetracycline cause sun sensitivity but I wasn't
in the sun at all. I can see improvement on the inflammation but not
redness.
Is three weeks too early to tell that it works? Is there any other
alternative to tetracycline which does not cause sun sensivity?
regards,
Jason
